Chipotle has never blown me away with an item from their menu. Most of the time, I feel like their food is mushy and bland. The fact that the food is so high priced only makes them a less appealing option for a meal.
Despite all of this, I was curious when they announced their limited-time Al Pastor chicken. I had never tasted Al Pastor before, and I know a few other people who like it a lot. I didn't know of anywhere else around that sold it, so I decided to give Chipotle's a try.....and I was quite surprised with the result.
The Al Pastor chicken gave a burst of flavor to a burrito bowl that is usually quite boring and sad. The chicken itself seems to be high quality, and always tastes like it is freshly made. I've had it a few times now, and every time I order it, I show up early and see them actually making the chicken that I ordered in the back before it ends up in my bowl.
This type of limited-time item is the type that needs to be a mainstay at Chipotle, because so many of their flavor profiles are extremely similar in their bowls. The Al Pastor chicken flavor is very unfamiliar one, and adds a much-needed, unique texture & spice level. I will be going to Chipotle specifically for this item until they decide to take it off the menu again. I can only hope it stays permanently.
